
Marlene Castillo, born and raised in Nash County, NC, is the daughter of immigrant parents from Tamaulipas, Mexico. Inspired by her older sister who paved the way for her educational journey, Marlene pursued a Bachelor of Science in University Studies with a thematic core in Health and Wellness and a minor in Natural Science from East Carolina University. She is fluent in English and Spanish and is WRAP Certified, as well as CPR, First Aid, and AED Certified, reflecting her commitment to community health and safety. Marlene began her journey with AMEXCAN as an intern in 2020 and has since served as Community Outreach Coordinator, Director of Disaster Relief, and Community Development Director before becoming Co-Executive Director. She is the founder of the NC Latino Community Task Force, the NC Latino Disaster Recovery Alliance, and the NC Farmworker Resource Network initiatives that strengthen health access, disaster preparedness, and resource coordination for Latino families across North Carolina. As Co-Executive Director, Marlene leads organizational strategy, community partnerships, and initiatives that empower and uplift Latino communities. A proud mother, she enjoys crafting in her free time and remains dedicated to building a more equitable future for all.
