Our leadership work is grounded in the idea that people lead best when they are rooted in community. We create real-world opportunities for youth, parents, and professionals to step into leadership roles—whether that’s running a student club, coordinating disaster recovery, or representing their county as a promotora.
AMEXCAN connects these local leaders to a broader ecosystem of networks and task forces focused on health, education, economic development, and public policy. By pairing hands-on experience with statewide collaboration, we help emerging leaders develop skills, build relationships, and turn their lived experience into collective power.
Want to plug into internships, volunteer opportunities, or statewide Latino leadership networks? Behind each number is someone who chose to step forward—as a student organizer, promotora, small business owner, or community advocate. Through our leadership programs and statewide coalitions, AMEXCAN turns individual talent into a connected network of Latino leaders working together to move North Carolina toward greater equity, representation, and opportunity.
Las Promotoras are community leaders who serve as AMEXCAN’s local bridge to Latino families in Pitt, Wilson, Duplin, Sampson, and Beaufort counties. They mobilize neighbors to attend events, share timely information about resources, and help residents navigate systems like schools, clinics, and public agencies.
As trusted messengers, Promotoras/Promotores strengthen participation, build belonging, and ensure that no family is left out of critical opportunities or updates.
AMEXCAN College Clubs provide Latino students with a space to lead, organize, and build community on campus. With support from AMEXCAN staff, students plan meetings, cultural events, and service projects focused on education, civic engagement, and social justice.
The clubs help students develop leadership skills, expand their networks, and proudly represent the voices and experiences of Latino youth in higher education.
The NC Latino Community Task Force brings together leaders from health, education, legal services, faith communities, and grassroots organizations to be a unified voice for Latino communities statewide.
The Task Force collaborates closely with partners and public officials to share up-to-date information, connect families to resources, and advocate for policies that address the most urgent needs of Latino and other marginalized communities.
AMEXCAN’s Internship and Volunteer Program creates hands-on opportunities for emerging leaders to learn by doing. Participants support outreach, events, research, communications, and program coordination while receiving mentorship from staff.
Through this experience, interns and volunteers gain professional skills, deepen their understanding of community issues, and see how their time and talent can make a real difference.
The NC Latino Resource Network is a statewide collaborative that helps organizations better serve Latino communities. By sharing information, training, and practical tools, the network strengthens local programs and encourages joint initiatives across regions.
Members use the network to find partners, access resources, and amplify efforts in areas like health, education, economic development, and advocacy.
The NC Latino Disaster Recovery Alliance works to reduce the impact of hurricanes, floods, and other disasters in Latino communities. Partners coordinate preparedness workshops, Disaster Expos, and recovery support so families know how to protect themselves before, during, and after an emergency.
The alliance ensures information and assistance are available in Spanish and rooted in community trust, so no family is left behind when disaster strikes.
The NC Latino Small Business Network connects Latino entrepreneurs across North Carolina to training, peer support, and new opportunities. Through networking events, workshops, and job fairs, the network helps small businesses formalize, grow, and hire from within the community.
By strengthening Latino-owned businesses, the network keeps jobs, investment, and leadership anchored in our neighborhoods.
