I’m originally from Guanajuato, Mexico. I grew up and lived much of my life in Celaya, Guanajuato, and I am the second of two children. Twenty-two years ago, I immigrated to the United States, to North Carolina, and since then I have lived in this beautiful state. A year after arriving in North Carolina, in 2004, I met Mr. Juvencio Peralta, who invited me to volunteer with AMEXCAN. At first, I didn’t fully understand how a nonprofit organization works, but over time I learned more about how it operates and the benefits a nonprofit provides to the community. I enjoyed being able to help others so much that I’ve stayed with AMEXCAN to this day, and I now have more than 21 years as part of this wonderful organization.
