October 2026 Magazine: Hispanidad and Day of the Dead

October 7, 2026

We believe that, in Mexico, October is perhaps the most colorful month in terms of traditions. Our quintessential Day of the Dead celebration is truly exceptional—a world-class festivity steeped in rich symbolism and history. Sharing a glimpse of this with our readers is undoubtedly a wonderful idea; while the altars often feature beautiful, colorful displays, we rarely fully grasp the meaning behind them.To that end, our contributor Abigail Villegas has prepared an article about the Day of the Dead and how it is observed by the Latino community in the United States, far from their homeland. We value seeing how this culture remains alive across the border with our northern neighbor and examining the changes the celebration undergoes due to the cultural interplay between the two nations. This edition also includes an opinion column designed to prompt reflection on various social issues and phenomena. We hope you enjoy our monthly issues, as they cover topics of interest to you; for us, it is crucial to pair our work with a shift in perspective regarding the importance of migrants in the United States.Additionally, Dr. Juan Antonio Barrera joins us once again for this edition, contributing another piece to our organizational magazine. His strong academic and professional background has earned him great renown in the field of psychology in both the United States and Mexico. By addressing mental health issues and psychological phenomena related to migration, his contributions offer a broad, professional perspective on the challenges faced by migrants and their families, as well as potential solutions.
