As part of its long-standing commitment to civic engagement, leadership development, and community empowerment, the Association of Mexicans in North Carolina, Inc.(AMEXCAN) convened a two-hour lunch and networking event under the banner of AMEXCAN Triangle, bringing together community leaders and partner organizations from across the Triangle region.
AMEXCAN began in the Triangle region more than two decades ago as a statewide organization. Over time, the organization shifted its headquarters and primary regional focus to Eastern North Carolina. However, from its founding, AMEXCAN has always envisioned a diverse and inclusive presence serving all one hundred counties across the state through local chapters and community-based leadership. Today, renewed interest and sustained demand for AMEXCAN’s programs over the past three years have reinforced the importance of reestablishing and strengthening its presence in the Triangle region.
AMEXCAN’s mission is to promote the active participation of Mexicans and Latinos in their communities across North Carolina and Mexico. The organization encourages appreciation, understanding, and prosperity through advocacy, cultural, educational, health, leadership, and binational initiatives. Its vision is to cultivate comprehensive and strategic collaborations with community-based organizations throughout the Triangle region, while building a strong and sustainable regional infrastructure that advances collective impact. Through effective resource mobilization, coordinated action, and proactive legislative engagement, AMEXCAN strives to influence public policy and drive systemic changes that promote equity, opportunity, and long-term community empowerment.
The chapter’s core areas of work include leadership, education, public policy, public safety, culture, economic development, and health.
The AMEXCAN Triangle leadership team is composed of regional partner organizations working collaboratively to strengthen coordination and collective impact. These include Migrantes Sin Fronteras, MOON, Lila, Brava NC, NC Bridge Project, El Pueblo, and AMEXCAN. Together, these organizations form a unified leadership structure dedicated to advancing the NC Latino Agenda and strengthening Latino representation and advocacy throughout the region.
During the event, AMEXCAN leaders emphasized the importance of coordinated actionamong Latino-serving organizations across North Carolina.
The Wilson chapter was also highlighted as a successful example of regional implementation, having developed targeted programs over the past five years to address community needs.
The AMEXCAN Triangle event followed a two-hour agenda that included a welcome by AMEXCAN Co-Directors, a host presentation, a team introduction, a group photo, and a networking lunch. Though concise, the gathering marked a major step toward strengthening collaboration, expanding regional leadership, and advancing a unified Latino agenda across North Carolina. AMEXCAN reaffirmed its commitment to building strong partnerships and ensuring a coordinated, strategic, and impactful voice for Latino communities statewide
