AMEXCAN expresses deep concern about the impact a prolonged shutdown of the U.S. federal government could have on food assistance programs such as SNAP and similar benefits, which may not be issued for November 2025. The organization stresses that this situation is especially serious for migrant communities, low-income families, and workers who depend on these programs to cover basic food needs. AMEXCAN states that it is unacceptable for political delays or budget disputes to put millions of people’s food security at risk, and highlights that in places like Pitt County, authorities already warn that tens of thousands of households could be affected.
The statement notes that the migrant community faces a double vulnerability—economic precariousness and the risk of being invisible or excluded from social protection systems. AMEXCAN therefore urges federal and state governments to act with maximum responsibility to prevent any interruption in benefits. The organization calls for the immediate release of necessary funds, activation of contingency mechanisms to avoid loss of November benefits, and strong coordination and communication so families know their rights and how to access support.
