The Revista Septiembre 2025 of the Asociación de Mexicanos en Carolina del Norte, Inc. (AMEXCAN) showcases the organization’s binational work to improve the quality of life of Mexican and Latino communities in the Carolinas and to strengthen their ties with Mexico. Under the editorial coordination of Emilio Antonio Vázquez Morales, the issue reiterates AMEXCAN’s mission to promote social justice, human rights, education, and inclusion for immigrant families.
The magazine’s feature pieces include “¿Delincuentes o Víctimas del Populismo Americano?”, where Emilio Vázquez and Rodrigo Hebrard challenge the idea that migrants are criminals by citing official data showing lower detention rates among migrants than U.S. citizens. Another article, “Más que Tex-Mex”, reflects on the labor, love, and cultural fusion behind Tex-Mex restaurants and the Mexican workers who sustain them. Community sections highlight a basic computer course in Wilson that built essential digital skills among participants; the work of Club Búhos de Agua Dulce, a youth group that “opens paths of hope for a better future”; and AMEXCAN’s long-running back-to-school events in Wilson and Greenville, which provided hundreds of backpacks, health screenings, and legal guidance to local families.
The issue also promotes upcoming activities, including a community pantry and pantry delivery in early September at AMEXCAN’s centers in Greenville and Wilson, and a Latino Festival scheduled for October 18, 2025, at Wildwood Park in Greenville. Together, these stories and announcements reflect AMEXCAN’s ongoing commitment to education, family well-being, and community empowerment across the region.
