AMEXCAN October 2025 Magazine: Family Reunification, Hispanic Heritage, and Community Events

October 1, 2025

The October 2025 edition of AMEXCAN’s magazine La Voz de la Comunidad presents the organization’s ongoing work to improve the quality of life for Mexicans and Latinos in the Carolinas while strengthening binational ties with Mexico. Grounded in values such as commitment, justice, solidarity, and transparency, AMEXCAN continues to promote social justice, human rights, education, and inclusion for immigrant communities on both sides of the border. The issue also revisits the history and relevance of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, noting that the Latino population now exceeds 63 million people—19% of the country’s residents.

A central focus of the magazine is AMEXCAN’s Family Reunification Program, described as the “jewel of our crown.” The program offers hope to migrants who have been separated from their parents or children—often for more than 20 years—by coordinating everything from informational sessions and embassy appointments to safe, accessible travel plans. To date, it has helped reunite around 700 mothers and fathers with their children in the U.S., maintaining a visa acceptance rate of over 80%. The edition also notes the appointment of Marlene Castillo and Elizabeth Kremer as AMEXCAN’s new Co-Directors and highlights the Búhos de Agua Dulce Youth Club’s event in Papantla, Veracruz, focused on suicide and bullying prevention in coordination with the María Peralta Pérez Foundation.

Looking ahead, the magazine promotes several key community events: the Día de Muertos Festival on October 25 at Whirligig Park in Wilson, the Festival Latino on October 18 at Wildwood Park in Greenville, and the annual Toys for Tots toy drive in Greenville throughout October and November, with distribution in December. Together, these initiatives reflect AMEXCAN’s commitment to cultural celebration, family unity, and concrete support for Latino communities across the region.
