The main objective of the Association of Mexicans in North Carolina (AMEXCAN) is to promote the importance of education on all levels and in all forms to serve as a vehicle to better our quality of life.  It is also important to promote parents’ participation in their children’s school activities as a way to develop programs and activities that help increase the level of education in the Mexican and Latino community.

Therefore, it is our first wish to place within our community’s grasp all the information and education-related guidance in order to serve them so that they may improve their day-to-day level of living.  The Association of Mexicans in North Carolina (AMEXCAN) is aware of the great necessity of the new generation of migrants who live in North Carolina.  It is for that reason that AMEXCAN has reached a collective agreement with different institutions in education and with different Community Colleges such as:

  1. Mount Olive College
  2. Pitt Community College
  3. East Carolina University (ECU)

These agreements were made with the purpose of diffusing information, guidance, services, and access that could help the community to enroll in these institutions, eventually opening new horizons to them as well as better jobs and better social renewal.   The members of the Association have been motivated by the community’s lack of information to provide the most current, modern, and revolutionary work  as well as in our informative and educational core and in our presentations for different community groups, for example: SEE PHOTOS.

Each of the different informational workshops that the Association provides in different places and counties informs and advises those who may be interested in doing some type of course of study or technical career. We will also advise and inform young adults who finish High School about the method to follow so that they may revalidate their studies in Mexico, if the case merits it. We know and we have helped several young adults who have decided to return to Mexico seeking to enroll in a university program of study due to the fact that here in the United States, for the moment, it is practically impossible to continue one’s studies in a community college or university.  We also provide advice on the legalization of one’s documents, which is very necessary. Otherwise if these documents are not processed, the person in question will not be able to enroll in a Mexican university.

The Association of Mexicans in North Carolina has the essential purpose to try to create an environment in which Mexicans and Latinos have quality access to education at the level and form that has been permitted and required at community and institutional levels.  A good education constitutes the fundamental axis of cultural, scientific, technological and social development of a nation.  For that reason, as a non-profit, education-promoting association, we believe that, no matter the level of education, the institution should promote the following values:

Modesty Integrity
Responsibility Leadership
Honesty Service Attitude
Respect Discipline
Compromise Equality

And, something very important that we should keep in mind is:

“A BOOK IS FULL OF USELESS WORDS IF IT DOES NOT INTEREST, EDUCATE, CONVINCE, PROVOKE CRITICISM, OR THE BOOK IS DISMISSED.”
