Advocacy is a political process by an individual or a large group which normally aims to influence public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions; it may be motivated from moral, ethical or faith principles or simply to protect an asset of interest. Advocacy can include many activities that a person or organization undertakes including media campaigns, public speaking, commissioning and publishing research, but its modern meaning is “the process of strategically managing information and knowledge in order to change the politics and the practices that affect peoples’ lives, in particular, the lives of the most unfavorable of persons.” Therefore, the Association of Mexicans in North Carolina (AMEXCAN) makes advocating for our communities on the different topics or problems that affect them—for example, the lack of some official document—one of its main objectives. AMEXCAN is mindful of this problem and therefore we meet with and put our Latino Community in contact with various Latin-American consulates. That way, we may help them find mobile consulates or one open for business on Saturday so that people who cannot travel to the consulate’s main office or, due to their work schedule, they are not able to travel in the middle of the week may still be able to access their services, for example: SEE PHOTOS

Good, effective law requires excellent planning in order to identify which problems are most urgent and may affect our community at the local, state, national and international level. Therefore, gaining the attention of different government agencies, non-governmental organizations, non-profits, health centers, and other agencies that provide some type of service for our migrant community, is a very important and constant legal function that AMEXCAN performs which provides the opportunity of showing the impact of socioeconomic development, but above all, the sociological impact, and to stress the urgency of the problems that our migrant communities face day-to-day in order to attract the attention of politicians—of people who can make important decisions—through media and the general public in order to dialog about how to resolve these problems, for example: SEE PHOTOS ![]() ![]() ![]()
